Learn The Slow Cooker Secrets To Keeping Your Ribs Tender But Intact!

Whenever I’ve made barbecue ribs in my slow cooker, I always wound up with ribs so tender that the meat was “falling off the bone.” Unfortunately, most of the meat that fell off was at the bottom of my slow cooker.

My ribs turned out to be more like pulled pork than pork ribs. While that may be the way some people like their ribs, I like mine to be “bite off the bone,” and I’ll bet you do too.

I recently ran across this video that will show you exactly how to make perfect barbeque ribs in your slow cooker every time.

Using these tips, you won’t believe how easy it is to get tasty and tender barbeque ribs that don’t fall apart in your crockpot.

Take a look and see.

I hope you liked the tips and want to try making your next rack of ribs like this in a slow cooker. Once again, here’s what you need and the steps to follow.

The Ingredients You Need

Here’s everything you need to make these tasty barbecue ribs. Each of these should be on your grocer’s shelf, or you can find them at numerous stores online.

  • St. Louis-Style Ribs – I make 2 racks of spare ribs for my family (2 adults and 3 children) and usually have a few ribs left over.
  • Barbecue Rub – I use Famous Dave’s Rib Rub because it’s a versatile seasoning for all pork cuts and is readily available. I could visit my spice cabinet and make my own rub, but this is so much easier, and most importantly, my family likes it too.
  • Yellow MustardFrench’s is a staple in our kitchen. I use it as a binder for the rub. You can use another brand or type of mustard, but French’s yellow mustard is what I usually have on hand.
  • Barbecue Sauce – I use Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce brand. There are a lot of great barbecue sauces, but Sweet Baby Ray’s brand is widely available and priced right. My family’s favorite is the honey barbecue sauce.
My Go-To Ingredients

Preparing Your Ribs

Start by trimming off any excess fat or meat that needs to be removed from the bones. Then using a butter knife to help you get started, carefully peel off the membrane covering the back of the ribs.

Season Your Ribs

Next, add your binder, then season both sides of your ribs thoroughly with your favorite dry rub. Pat the rub down to help it stick to the meat. Place them into the slow cooker, and drizzle your favorite barbecue sauce over them.

Set Your Cooking Times

Turn the heat on your slow cooker to low and let them cook for 6 hours.

You won’t need to add additional liquids during the cooking time. The barbeque sauce and juices from the meat will be sufficient.

When the 6 hours is up, test the meat for tenderness by piercing it with a toothpick. If done, take the ribs out of the pot, place them onto a baking sheet, and coat them again evenly with barbeque sauce.

Although the video says to bake them at 425° for 4 to 6 minutes, I prefer broiling mine for a couple of minutes instead. Either way works, but keep an eye on them so the sauce carmelizes, and they don’t burn.

Remove them from the oven and let them rest for 5 minutes before cutting and serving. Enjoy!
